The Maldives were held to a 1–1 draw by Nepal in their third group-stage match of the SAFF U-20 tournament on Sunday, missing a crucial chance to secure a semifinal spot.
The Maldives made a strong start and took the lead in the 14th minute through captain Mohamed Ilan Imran, who struck a volley into the net. Despite early dominance and a confident performance, they were unable to extend their lead, with several chances going unfinished.
Nepal gradually grew into the match and found the equalizer late on. In the 85th minute, Bigyan Khadka scored with a close-range header following a free kick delivery.
The result leaves Nepal at the top of the group with seven points from three matches, already assured of a semifinal place.
