The Maldives youth national football team has departed for Singapore to hold a training camp in preparation for the upcoming SAFF U20 tournament.
The team traveled under the guidance of Hungarian coach István Urbani, who serves as the head coach of the senior national team and Technical Director of the Football Association of Maldives.
The training camp in Singapore was arranged with the support of the Football Association of Singapore at the request of FAM. During the camp, the Maldivian side will play two friendly matches against Singapore’s under-19 team.
The SAFF U20 Championship is scheduled to take place from April 23 to May 3, and this will be the first time the Maldives hosts a SAFF age-group tournament. Group A includes Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka, while Group B consists of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.
This year’s youth squad was selected based on performances in the Diamond Jubilee Invitational Cup organized by the Dhivehi Premier League and FAM.
