Crown and Champa Resorts has started paying salaries to its employees in US dollars. Previously, employees were paid a fixed amount of MVR 10,000, while service charges were already paid in dollars.
The company said the decision was made to better support employees and to comply with existing laws and regulations. Under amendments to the Foreign Exchange Regulation, companies that earn income in foreign currency are permitted to pay their employees in dollars.
Crown and Champa Resorts operates 11 resorts across the Maldives, including Kuddhoo Maldives, Kagi Maldives, Hurawalhi, Nala Maldives, Meeru Maldives, Komandoo Resort, Vilamendhoo Resort, Kuredu Resort and Island & Spa. The company employs around 3,000 staff members.
