Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Ahmed Shiyam has announced that the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has started purchasing yellowfin tuna at a rate of MVR 25 per kilogram following the reopening of Kanduloygiri for operations.

The minister said the new price came into effect yesterday and described it as a significant boost for the fisheries sector. He noted that the move is expected to support fishermen and strengthen fish purchasing activities in the area.

MIFCO Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Farhath Shaheer said efforts have been made to expand services for fishermen since Kanduloygiri resumed operations. He confirmed that MIFCO is now purchasing yellowfin tuna weighing more than 15 kilograms at the announced rate.

In addition to yellowfin tuna, MIFCO has also begun purchasing skipjack tuna from fishermen operating in the area.
