Maldives is once again gearing up for an exciting sporting event – the Hyundai Golden Futsal Challenge 2026. This is the largest and most prestigious futsal tournament in the country. A total of 119 teams from across the north, south, and central Maldives will compete, showcasing the talent of nearly 1,800 players.
The tournament kicks off tonight with the Charity Shield match at Rehendhi Stadium in Hulhumale’. Kaashidhoo and B. Eydhafushi will face each other for the opening trophy. Both teams are former Maldivian Futsal King champions, having won the title once each.
The Golden Futsal Challenge has become the biggest platform for futsal in the Maldives. From atoll rounds to zone stages and the final rounds, the tournament brings together communities and supporters from across the country. Its growing popularity reflects continued efforts to raise the standard and competitiveness of island futsal. The strong reception Eydhafushi received after winning the tournament in 2024 highlights its national impact.
Kaashidhoo’s journey to last year’s final surprised many, proving that success in futsal comes from teamwork rather than star power alone. Over the years, the tournament has produced many standout players, with every gold medal winner earning recognition as a national futsal hero.
Eydhafushi, known for its strong sporting culture, enters tonight’s match with experience and confidence. The Charity Shield holds special historical importance, as past winners include Thimarafushi, Gan, and Gaafaru. Tonight’s match offers Kaashidhoo and Eydhafushi a chance to write their names into that history.
First held in 2015, this year’s competition marks the 10th edition of the Golden Futsal Challenge. With more than 280 matches expected, the tournament promises weeks of high-quality futsal action. One Sports will serve as the official media partner for the fourth consecutive year.
Charity Shield activities begin tonight at 20:15.
