The National and International Invitational Open Club Championship Volleyball Tournament, known as the Tiger Cup, is set to begin in Nepal on November 23. This year’s tournament will feature 14 teams competing in both men’s and women’s divisions.
According to Prasad Sharma, Chairman of the Tiger Cup Organising Committee, seven men’s teams and seven women’s teams will take part in the competition. Four teams from outside Nepal will compete in the tournament, including a women’s team, the Maldivian men’s national volleyball team, and the Indian men’s national team.
In the men’s division, teams competing include Gujarat Volleyball Club, Gandaki Provincial Volleyball Team, a team from Parbat District, Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and the Armed Police Force team. This year marks the sixth edition of the Tiger Cup to be held in Nepal.
As the Maldives prepares for the tournament, changes have been made to the national team’s structure and regulations. The team is now made up of young players under the age of 30 and is coached by Iranian coach Farhad Nazari. The Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) has stated that players must comply with newly introduced policies aimed at strengthening the future of Maldivian volleyball, and that action will be taken against any players or officials who violate these rules.
The Maldivian team recently played a friendly match under the new coach against a Sri Lankan university team, securing a 3–2 victory.
