The Maldives and China have signed an Agreement on Development Cooperation, with China providing RMB 600 million to support major development projects in the Maldives.

The agreement was signed today by Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel and Kong Xianhua, Ambassador of China to the Maldives.

Chinese support will focus on three main projects: the China–Maldives Friendship Hospital in Villimalé, the Malé–Villimalé road development, and the construction of 50 council buildings across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Khaleel highlighted China’s past contributions to housing, health, tourism, and the China–Maldives Friendship Bridge. He thanked President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government for their continued support and reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strong bilateral relations.

Ambassador Kong Xianhua said China will continue to support the Maldives’ development and implement projects that benefit both countries.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and Planning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other guests.
