Mohamed Nasheed, former President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and former Speaker of the People's Majlis, along with former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu), have stated their willingness to engage in political cooperation with former President Abdulla Yameen.

Speaking to reporters after their meeting at the MDP office today, Solih expressed his belief that cooperation with individuals who have previously served as President could be beneficial for the upcoming Local Council elections.

"There are parties with whom we can collaborate. For instance, there are former presidents, apart from ourselves. We believe that consulting with them and proceeding with initiatives to hold the current government accountable is a viable path," Solih articulated.

He further added, "We can even work with Yameen, you know."

Following Solih's remarks, Nasheed also highlighted that he has previously engaged in political collaboration with former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

Continuing the discussion after Nasheed, Solih emphasized the extensive work required due to the country's current circumstances. He conveyed that including Yameen's contribution in these efforts is a desirable outcome.

As Solih made these statements, Nasheed concurrently affirmed, echoing from beneath Solih's voice, "It is something we desire."

Currently, the most intense rivalry within the MDP's council primary is for the Malé Mayoral ticket. The incumbent Mayor, Adam Azim, is contesting with the endorsement of President Solih, while Ali Azim is competing with the backing of Nasheed.

Solih affirmed that the MDP would operate as a unified entity after the primary elections. He expressed his conviction that no division would arise within the MDP and committed to not allowing any such fragmentation. Nasheed strongly endorsed these statements.

"I wholeheartedly agree with President Solih," Nasheed stated.
