The Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) has dismissed Shamail Hussain from the national volleyball squad after he participated in the Laamu Atoll Volleyball Tournament, contrary to VAM policy.
Shamail, who plays for Laamu Akirikolhu Sports Club, had recently returned to the Maldives following a health issue but did not attend national team practices before joining the Atoll tournament. VAM also announced that he will be barred from participating in other tournaments overseen by its referees.
In a letter to the Laamu Atoll Council, VAM explained that national team players must follow specific policies regarding participation in other tournaments. The association’s legal commission approved the decision.
VAM President Mohamed Latheef told One Sports that the action was taken to enforce the rules, but expressed hope that Shamail could acknowledge his mistake and return to the team in the future.
Two men's division matches in the Laamu Atoll tournament scheduled for tonight have been postponed, with dates to be rescheduled due to the disruption.
