Velaa Sports Club has successfully defended their title, winning the Eydhafushi Cup 2025 with a 2-1 victory over Irumathi FC in the final match held at Eydhafushi Stadium this evening.
The stadium was filled with supporters as both teams battled in an intense match. Despite injuries affecting both sides, Irumathi FC were hit hardest by the suspension of their foreign forward, Prince Boadu, whose absence weakened their attack.
Velaa took the lead late in the first half when Ali Zubair deflected in a pass from Ahmed Suhail. In the second half, keeper Mifdad Ahmed launched a counter-attack which led to Abdul Majeed scoring Velaa’s second goal.
Irumathi FC pulled one back in injury time through an Ali Naseem penalty, but Velaa held firm to seal the championship.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Vice President of the Maldives, Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, as the guest of honour.
Individual awards were also presented at the ceremony. Velaa’s goalkeeper, Mifdad Ahmed, was named Player of the Match and Best Goalkeeper. The Top Scorer award was shared between Prince Boadu of Irumathi FC and Ibrahim Oladimeji Jimoh of Huss Songun, with two goals each.
Irumathi FC's Abdulla Jaushan was recognised as the Most Promising Player, while Imthishaal Abdul Rahim was named Best Player of the tournament. Aajeelakah Eydhafushi Football Academy received the Fair Play award.
