The Maldives football team have claimed the South Asian Super Cup 2025 after defeating Sri Lanka with an aggregate score of 3-1.

The decisive match was played at the Racecourse International Stadium in Sri Lanka and ended 1-1, giving the Maldives the title following their 3-0 win in the first leg.

The Maldives started the match strongly, creating pressure in the opening minutes with a well-organised defence and sharp attacks. Goalkeeper Mohamed Faisal made several key saves to deny Sri Lanka’s chances, while striker Ibrahim Mahdi tested Sri Lanka’s keeper Sujan Perera early on.

In the 67th minute, Ali Fasir put the Maldives ahead by scoring from a rebound, sending Maldivian fans in the stadium into celebration. Sri Lanka managed to equalise late in the game, but it was not enough to overturn the aggregate result.

A large number of Maldivian supporters attended the match, cheering the team to victory. This win marks another milestone for the national squad, as Sri Lanka have not beaten the Maldives in football since 2002.

The two Super Cup victories were achieved under the guidance of newly appointed coach Mohamed Shiyaz (Mohan), and the results are expected to provide a strong boost for both the players and the coaching staff moving forward.
