A state-owned company named State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited has been established to import medicines, medical consumables, and medical equipment in bulk.

According to the President's Office today, this company was established under the authority granted to the President by Section 15 of the Companies Act (Act No. 7/2023).

The President's Office also stated that this company was established with the purpose of expanding the work of purchasing and importing medicines, medical consumables, and medical equipment to the Maldives under this company, and to carry out all the work of distributing these items to different parts of the country.

The issue of regular unavailability of medicines needed for people with special illnesses surfaces from time to time.
