Mohamed Shiyaz (Mohan), the coach of the national team, has said that the big victory against Sri Lanka in their home ground in the first match of the South Asian Super Cup was due to the extraordinary courage shown by the players.

In the South Asian Super Cup where Maldives and Sri Lanka are competing, there will be a total of two matches. The champion will be decided based on the aggregate result, and in the first leg yesterday, Maldives defeated Sri Lanka with a score of 3-0.

With yesterday's win, Maldives has come close to winning the tournament, with the next leg scheduled for the 9th. That match will also be held at Sri Lanka's Race Course Stadium.

"Alhamdulillah. Although the result is 3-0, this was not an easy match. It was a very difficult match. Sri Lanka played very well. However, this is the result of the players' hard work. I said before the match, it's not the result that's important. What's important is the effort the players put in. If that effort is seen in the match, we'll know we've worked as hard as we could. Today our team did that. We worked as hard as we could," Mohan said after yesterday's match.

Since Mohan took charge of the national team, they had only a few practice sessions before yesterday's match. The team entered the match aiming to end a losing streak of five previous matches. While Mohan was satisfied with achieving this, he said that yesterday's result alone is not enough to win the tournament.

"We won't focus on this result alone. The next match will be important. When we go into the next match, I won't count the result of this match. The result of that match will be important to us then," Mohan said happily.

After yesterday's match, Ibrahim Mahdhy (Feydhoo Ibbe), who was named the player of the match, said that the players' efforts were successful and that they can still improve further.

"Alhamdulillah, thanks. This is the result of all players' hard work. It was a very difficult match. We knew it would be difficult to play against Sri Lanka. So all players put in effort and we won this match very well. We can play even better than this," Feydhoo Ibbe said.
