President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has today changed the name of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to "Environmental Regulatory Authority".

The President's Office stated that under the authority granted to the President by Article 116 (a) of the Constitution, the name of the "Environmental Protection Agency", which operates under the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, has been changed to "Environmental Regulatory Authority".

With this change, the status of the agency, which was previously run under the advice of a governing board, has been altered. It is now established as an agency directly under the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, according to the President's Office.

The President's Office said that this change was made because the main work carried out by the EPA so far has been related to regulating environmental matters in the Maldives. The new name is more closely related to the main work of the agency. Additionally, this change is intended to make the agency's work more efficient and faster than before.
