President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a major project to establish utility services in reclaimed lands of Maldivian islands will be initiated, included in next year's budget.

Speaking at a meeting held in Eydhafushi during his trip to Baa Atoll, the President stated that many islands have reclaimed lands where nothing has been done. He noted that whether it's for housing or starting a business, services such as electricity, water, sewerage, and other utilities have not been established. He highlighted that this has been an issue for many years.

"The reclaimed lands are just there in name, without any use. We are preparing next year's budget to include a special program for this. When preparing next year's budget, we are including a special new initiative program, a project to establish the necessary utilities and infrastructure for the reclaimed lands," he said.

The President stated that the project will prioritize islands where population and development can be consolidated and islands with larger populations, and the work will proceed in that order. He also mentioned that they will look into the possibility of starting a phase of this project even this year.

"Certainly, the budget we allocate for next year will include a very large program to provide water, electricity, sewerage, and roads needed for the reclaimed lands, as I mentioned. This will cover many islands," the President said.
