Former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor has left to India for medical treatment.

The former Vice President departed this morning on a flight of Air India. After the Medical Board said that Adeeb required medical treatment, the government decided to provide him the opportunity for medical treatment.

Home Minister, Sheikh Imran Abdulla has previously said that Adeeb is set to return after treatment on 26 June and would be accompanied by officers of the Maldives Correctional Service and the Maldives Police Service. He said that the travel has been discussed with the Indian authorities.

Before the Vice President’s medical visit, a team from the police went to India along with three officers from the Correctional Service. The government has said that the travel is being arranged with the assurance that Adeeb would not flee.
