One of the Maldives’ most anticipated kitesurfing events, Raaraa Pro 2025, officially launched yesterday in K. Dhiffushi. Organised by Iconic Events, the tournament marks a significant step in promoting sports tourism in the country.
The opening ceremony was attended by key figures in the sports and tourism industries, including Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Managing Director Shiuree Ibrahim. Also present were tournament partners and the organising team from Iconic Events.
A highlight of the launch was the unveiling of the championship trophy, an eye-catching design by The Mujas Artbox, which captivated attendees with its artistic craftsmanship and symbolic spirit.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shiuree Ibrahim emphasised the importance of events like Raaraa Pro in expanding the country's sports tourism footprint. “This is an important platform to promote tourism through sports. Events like these have immense potential to attract global attention,” she said.
Iconic Events founder Hasan Rashid (Rush) expressed confidence in the event’s future. “Raaraa Pro is just the beginning. We believe it will become a major success and we thank all our partners for making this possible,” he said.
Raaraa Pro 2025 aims to position the Maldives as a premier kitesurfing destination, while also enhancing local tourism and fostering growth in the sport. The event features both race and freestyle categories, with 20 of the nation’s top kitesurfers taking part.
Athlete briefings were held last night, where participants were issued official jerseys and received instructions from event judges. All competitors are now fully prepared, with events scheduled to continue through Saturday.
In addition to the main competition, special children's events are planned for today, adding a community-focused element to the programme.
One Sports is the official media partner for Raaraa Pro 2025 and is providing dedicated coverage from Dhiffushi throughout the tournament.
