Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced a strategic partnership with Parley Maldives under its new environmental initiative, ENV POS, aimed at protecting the country’s marine ecosystems.

Through the ENV POS programme, BML will contribute a portion of its earnings from every transaction made via its Point of Sale (POS) terminals towards environmental projects—at no cost to customers or merchants. These funds will directly support efforts to conserve the Maldives’ natural environment, with a focus on ocean protection.

As part of the initiative, BML will support Parley Maldives in exporting plastic waste for recycling to Germany, Taiwan, and Malaysia under the Parley AIR strategy: “Avoid. Intercept. Redesign.” The bank also plans to introduce new cards made from Parley Ocean Plastic®, using materials collected in the Maldives.

BML CEO Mohamed Shareef highlighted the urgency of addressing plastic pollution, calling the partnership a meaningful step towards safeguarding marine life. Parley Maldives Executive Director Shaahina Ali echoed the sentiment, expressing confidence that the collaboration will strengthen national efforts toward a sustainable, net-zero future.

The ENV POS initiative underscores BML’s long-term commitment to environmental stewardship, offering customers a simple way to support ocean conservation through everyday transactions.
