Foreign Ministry has said that the foreign embassies in the capital are set to be moved to Hulhumale’.

Speaking at a news conference today on the Indian Prime Minister’s visit, Minister of State for the Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Khaleel said that the purpose of the move is to minimize congestion in the capital.

Minister Khaleel said that it is possible for the Indian Embassy to get a lot in Hulhumale’. However, a foundation ceremony for the new Indian Embassy would not be held during the upcoming visit of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Sources say that an area of 30,000 square feet is allocated in the second phase of the Hulhumale’ Development Project to house all he foreign embassies and diplomatic missions in the capital.

A number of foreign embassies in Male’ City are run at private housing complexes.
